'Just a Fool' is a country ballad about the heartbreak and pain of a break-up. Country star Shelton sings the second verse and then trades vocals with Aguilera, who leads with the song's first lines. The two powerfully unite for the chorus and at the end of the song (where the tempo also increases). It's one of the more mature and emotional songs on Aguilera's album, packed with country-like melancholy lyrics and a catchy, heartwarming chorus. While Shelton's soulful vocals provide a strong, emotional addition to the track, Aguilera nearly overpowers him, with vocals that possibly haven't been this strong since her hit 'Beautiful.' The lyrics are also particularly strong, as the two sing that they were fools for thinking their past love could last. Shelton sings "I'm just a fool for holding on to something that is never ever gonna come back. I can't accept that it's lost."
The two superstars recently performed the single live during an episode of The Voice. Aguilera's album 'Lotus' was released in November and features another co-star from 'The Voice,' CeeLo Green.' Take a listen to 'Just a Fool' right now on AOL Radio's New Pop First.
