Top 10 One-Hit Wonders

2. GREENEYED LADY by Sugarloaf, energized 70s, tune, Xtended version is especially cool...Good Cruising song
Posted at 11:59PM on Aug 7th 2009 by Joseph A Rincones jr
3. Though I don't agree with all of them, I think you missed "The Letter" by the Box Tops.
Posted at 12:59PM on Aug 7th 2009 by Richard
4. Spandau ballet was not a one hit wonder..they had several hits in the UK, and the song GOLD was also a hit in the USA.
Posted at 2:32PM on Aug 7th 2009 by David R
5. I had seen VH1's "Top 100 One-Hit Wonders of the '80s" (or whatever it's called) and was hoping "Tainted Love" would be included because I believe it is. I suppose the blogger(s) do too, which is pretty cool. Oh, and that it's on the list as #1. I think it's kind of funny though that on the show "Come On Eileen" was #1 but on here it's #6. To each his own I guess. The did-you-know thing for "True" was also a very interesting fact. I didn't know that and never would've guessed it was actually a tribute to Marvin Gaye since he was only mentioned in the song.

6. How about "IN A GODDA DA VIDA "by Iron Butterfly?
Posted at 4:34PM on Aug 7th 2009 by releefun1
7. The letter by the Boxtops shouls have been in here.
Posted at 5:07PM on Aug 7th 2009 by rhous67512
8. Soft Cell is not a one hit wonder, I made that mistake in a coversation with a friend from the UK, theve got tons of big songs over there.
Posted at 5:15PM on Aug 7th 2009 by Mikey
9. IN THE YEAR 2525 BYZAGER & EVANS WAS THE BIGGEST ONE HIT WODER OF THE 60'S IT IS OBVIOUS THE PEOPLE WHO RESPONDED WERE TOO YOUNG TO HAVE ENJOYED THE REAL ONE HIT WONDERS
Posted at 2:21PM on Aug 8th 2009 by JOE
10. A-Ha had other hits. For example, "The Sun Always Shines on TV" and the theme song for the James Bond movie "The Living Daylights." I don't think they are appropriately called a one-hit wonder.
Posted at 8:52PM on Aug 7th 2009 by J
11. Kiss You All Over!! Do you know how many kids were conceived to this song!!
Posted at 7:47PM on Aug 7th 2009 by G
12. I guess some people's memories don't go very far back (at least beyond the 70's): "In the Year 2525" by Zager & Evans hit the #1 spot 40 years ago in July 1969 -- during the same week of the first manned landing on the moon by the crew of Apollo 11. The musical duo has consistantly been labeled a One Hit Wonder on the basis of this song.
Posted at 9:40PM on Aug 7th 2009 by wspaceport
13. One hit wonders or groups that people only remember one song from? What's the criteria?
Tommy Tutone had a top 40 hit prior to 867-5309 Jenny, "Angel Say No" in 1980
A-HA made the top 20 with "The Sun Always Shines On TV"
Spandau Ballet also made the top 40 with "Gold" and "Only If You Leave"
Exile also made the top 40 with "You Thrill Me"
Of the 10 acts mentioned only the Proclaimers and Soft Cell never made the Billboard hot 100 again after their hit.

14. At least you didn't pick on Chumbawamba, which seems to be a popular thing to do...
Another case of an audience latching onto one song that doesn't even resemble most of what a band did and ignorantly bypassing a massive body of work.
Posted at 11:29PM on Aug 7th 2009 by Steve
15. How about Smoking in the Boys Room by Brownsville Station.
Posted at 2:01AM on Aug 8th 2009 by susan
16. Sorry to have to say this but "LIES" by The KNICKERBOCKERS fall into this category..I outta know i had 2 brothers in the band and my brother Beau co-wrote it..It's was so sad cus they had soooo many great follow-up songs but the record label they were under were horrible. My friend Richie Moon Walker dedicates most of his My Space page to the Knickerbockers...
Posted at 8:16AM on Sep 4th 2009 by Linda
17. Thumbs up on the knickerbockers tune "Lies"
How about "Incense & Peppermints" by Stawberry Alarm Clock?
Posted at 7:42AM on Aug 8th 2009 by jrpwiz
18. True one hit wonder and my favorite is "Incense and Peppermints" by Stawberry Alarm Clock.
Posted at 7:48AM on Aug 8th 2009 by Jim
19. Touch of Grey by The Grateful Dead.
The only top 10 song that the band ever released.

20. I have never even heard that song by The Procalaimers.
Posted at 11:07AM on Aug 8th 2009 by Chris
21. The Box Tops also had "Cry Like a Baby", which was a big hit soon after "The Letter".
Posted at 11:23AM on Aug 8th 2009 by Tom
22. you need to quantify "one hit wonders as at least 5 bands on your list had multiple releases that charted in the UK and Europe. Aha's take on me did very well in the UK reaching number 2 and spending 19 weeks on the chart. Their follow up hit The sun only shines on tv reached number 1, and let's not forget the title track to the Bond movie The living Daylights... Spandau Ballet had numerous hits, To cut a long story short, Lifeline, Gold, Only when you leave, through the barricades, to name just a few. The proclaimers equally had other hits notably and probably just as popular was Letter From America their first hit reaching number 3 in November 1987... So if you mean one hit wonders stateside then please state this...

24. Jeannie C. Riley also had a respectable hit with a catchy cover of Joe South's, "Games People Play."
1977's "Don't Give Up on Us, Baby," by David Soul (of Starsky & Hutch fame) and Peter McCann's "Do You Wanna Make Love?" were a couple of memorable OHWs.

27. You'd recognize the proclaimers song if you heard it. You can see a video of it on Youtube.
I'd nominate Thunderclap Newman for 'Something in the Air' a big hit in 1969.

Posted at 10:07PM on Aug 8th 2009 by PRO
32. I think "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" by Vicki Lawrence qualifies, dont you? Also, memo to the person who said "The Letter"by the Box Tops. They also had Cry Like a Baby so they dont qualify.

36. How about "Brother Louie" by Stories. Or, "Temptation Eyes" By the Grass Roots, or "Eve of Destruction" by Barry McGuire? There are some good songs left off that list. 38. Your one hit wonder without I WILL FOLLOW HIM is a joke.
Posted at 8:33AM on Aug 9th 2009 by arnie harris
39. @wspaceport;
WOW! Your knowledge is encyclopedic, It must be highly likely that most of us, even those who remember thousands of 60's and 70's songs, had no idea that these "one-hit wonder" lists are so bogus. Thank you for a surprising fact. Going now to look for more of their songs. You are really quite smart!
Posted at 11:25AM on Aug 13th 2009 by D Cohen
40. The greatest one hit wonder of all times has got to be, hands down,Minnie Ripperton's Loving You. Tainted Love you have go to be kidding.
Posted at 11:47AM on Aug 9th 2009 by Lorrie

Posted at 6:42PM on Aug 9th 2009 by bob
47. Proper research was not done for this. Spandau Ballet had hits overseas and a minor hit called "Only When You Leave" Biggest one hit wonder was probably Zager and Evans "In The Year 2525" that was number one for 6 weeks and almost 1969 top single.
Posted at 8:23PM on Aug 9th 2009 by Tony Arellano
48. This list is good and I agree with most of it. A more recent song (early 2000's) by a one hit wonder is 'Heard It All Before' by Sunshine Andersen.
Posted at 8:51PM on Aug 9th 2009 by Mad
49. In 1973, there was two songs I thought would make it.......Andy Kim had a big hit played all over today, "Rock Me Gently" also Terry Jacks had "Seasons In The Sun"..........and geeez, how could you leave out "American Pie" by Don McLean, big #1 in 1972.
