Powerade Zero debuted their new product (a "0 calorie sports drink now with ION4") during the 2010 Olympic games, featuring Nu Shooz's 1986 hit 'I Can't Wait.' The dance hit -- clinging onto disco fever beats -- is featured on the Portland-based electronic duo's (husband-and-wife John Smith and Valerie Day) sophomore release 'Poolside.'
The single had booming success, not only reaching No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Party chart, but peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining in the top 40 for 15 weeks. The following year the duo was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist, but lost to Bruce Hornsby & the Range. Nu Shooz only had a few more successful single releases off their follow-up album, 1988's 'Told U So' before the broke up and failed to finish their fourth studio album.
With the release of Powerade Zero, the sports drink rally continues, comparing calorie-count of products by Powerade's biggest competitors Gatorade and Propel. Turns out sports drink's advertisers are just as competitive as their consumers. Check out the commercial below.
