'Nightmare' is the first single and title track off Avenged Sevenfold's new album, which is expected to be released on July 27. The upcoming album will be the California-based hard rockers' first record since the untimely passing of founding member and drummer James "The Rev" Sullivan last December. In tribute to Sullivan, the band arranged for his "all-time favorite drummer," Mike Portnoy from progressive rockers Dream Theater, to perform in Sullivan's place throughout the new album -- which features many songs co-written by the late drummer. This will be the fifth studio album for the band -- who have been steadily gaining popularity since forming in Huntington Beach in 1999 -- and understandably, their darkest and most emotional project they have ever undertaken.
Portnoy will also be behind the drum kit for the rest of 2010 as Avenged Sevenfold tours in support of the new album. You can hear 'Nightmare' and other Avenged Sevenfold songs on AOL Radio's Metal Most Pit Station.

1. Avenged Sevenfold are always hit & miss with their music but this time around the single is a winner. I like the horror movie intro and the edginess it brings as the powerful punches of drums and guitar build the song up. I hope the album is of equal quality.
