Jessie James' new song, 'Boys in the Summer,' is one of those rare tracks that seem to capture everything good and pure about summer. The 22-year-old James -- in case you hadn't heard -- is on the cusp of becoming country music's next 'it' girl, after having garnered critical and popular acclaim with her debut eponymous EP, which came out in 2009. This new track, off James' forthcoming album, is a refreshing reminder of the singer's unique ability to blend pop music tropes -- with rollicking country guitars -- to create a sound that's truly her own.
The new song's message may be self-evident, but when James belts out, "Boys, Boys so much hotter in the summer," it suddenly seems to take on an entirely new (and inspiring) message. And let's be honest, when a Maxim Top 100 girl like Jessie sings about skinny dipping with gorgeous men in the dead heat of summer, it's enough to get the attention of men and women alike.
